120 dead in Philippines storm - The flooding in Spain is horrific, but most mainstream media seems oblivious to the fact that the Philippines went through something similar. Tropical Cyclone Trami caused severe flooding and landslides resulting in over 120 deaths and displacing nearly one million people across Luzon. The storm struck on October 24 and dumped over two months' worth of rain in just 48 hours. Access to food remains limited in many areas due to flooding and blocked roads. Source.
Israel bombs Lebanon's historic Baalbek after ordering entire city to leave - The Israeli military on Wednesday started heavily bombarding the World Heritage Site and ancient eastern Lebanon city of Baalbek hours after it ordered all residents (some 80,000 people) to leave the area. There are Roman ruins in Baalbek that date back 3,000 years. Lebanon is hopeful that negotiations will lead to a ceasefire before the US elections next week. Source, source, source.
Divisions within Bolivia’s MAS party - Former president Evo Morales survived a gun attack and blamed supporters of current president, Luis Arce, for an assassination attempt. Morales supporters are currently holding road blocks, which Arce has, according to Morales, “threatened”. Arce passed a measure this week that provides a monetary award to police to risk their life or physical integrity. Source, source, source.
Türkiye intensifies attacks on northern Syria / Kurdish held regions - Türkiye has attacked electricity plants in Kobanî and Amude, wheat silos, bread shops, a health centre, and homes. In four days, 16 oil and fuel sites were hit, and 137 residential areas. Thousands have been left without electricity, fuel, and essential services. Turkish forces are systematically attacking essential civilian resources to destabilise AANES (Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria) -controlled regions and subjugate Kurdish-held areas. 14-hour daily power cuts in Ecuador - Ecuadorians are now facing 14-hour daily power cuts after the government announced on Friday that instead of decreasing the length of the ongoing eight-hour cuts, they would be increased by six hours. Many people have lost jobs because their workplaces can no longer function. Low water levels have driven hydroelectric reservoirs, which supply 70% of national demand, to critical lows. Displacement in Sudan crosses 11 million - Since September, a further 200,000 people have been forcibly displaced in Sudan, as a result of the civil war. There have also been reports of women dying by mass suicide in order to avoid rape, with one activist alleging that over 100 women in the village in Al Jazirah recently did so. Activists also said the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) killed at least 124 people in a village in El Gezira State last Friday. Source, source, source, source.
