Waste from companies like Adidas and Walmart is being used to fuel kilns in brick factories in Cambodia - Some workers are falling ill, according to a report by a local rights organisation. Factories are burning garment waste to save on fuel costs, but that’s causing headaches, nose bleeds, and respiratory issues. Source.
Hundreds of thousands of Afghans facing humanitarian crisis - Pakistan has cracked down on 1.8 million Afghan refugees residing within its territory, expelling hundreds of thousands. They are now staying in refugee tent camps in Afghanistan - effectively refugees within their own country. There are food, fuel, and medicine shortages. Source.
Brazil announces measures for slave-resisting Quilombolas communities - Brazil’s racial equality minister announced that there will be “advances” in processing 1,800 land titles as well as mental health support and other measures. Source.
Ongoing slow coup in Guatemala - The Grupo de Puebla, an organisation of current and former progressive Latin American heads of state and leaders, has warned that right wing forces in Guatemala which have judicial and political power, have been waging attacks in order to prevent left-leaning president elect, Bernardo Arévalo, from swearing in as president in January. On Tuesday, protestors held a vehicle caravan from the west of the country to the capital to defend their electoral choices. Source, source.
Swiss multinational mining company contaminating air, water, soil of Cusco - Communities in Espinar, Cusco, Peru, have been denouncing for over 10 years that Glencore is to blame for pollution in the region. The company has continuously denied it, but recent official studies have confirmed the communities were right. Source.
Farmers to protest in India - From November 26, farmers will protest for three days in state capitals around India to demand minimum support prices, compensation for farmers who have died, support with distribution, and more. Source.
56,000 buildings in Gaza destroyed or damaged by Israeli forces - Remote mapping scientists have analysed maps and found that Israel’s bombing campaign has left around half of northern Gaza damaged or destroyed since 7 October. Over 100 dead Palestinians have been buried in a mass grave in Khan Younis, southern Gaza, as cemeteries are full. Source, source, source.
Rohingya camps in Bangladesh hit by cyclone - A powerful cyclone hit Bangladesh's coast late Friday, and caused tens of thousands of Rohingya people to relocate from the world's largest refugee camp. Also, after spending two weeks at sea, over a thousand Rohingya have landed on Aceh, Indonesia’s shores over the past week. The last arrival group was kept on the sand, without bedding, overnight.
