Guatemalan Indigenous leaders demand election results be formalised - Last Sunday saw a surprise outcome in the Guatemalan elections, with a non-establishment, anti-corruption candidate, Bernardo Arevalo, propelled into the run-off for presidency. Just weeks before, the centre-left candidate had only polled 0.7%. People frustrated with the system and corruption seemed to have suddenly turned out to vote for him, abandoning the other leading favourites completely . He still only got 11.8% of the vote, as 22 people were competing for the presidency. However, since then, following complaints from the elites and right-wing parties, a court ruling has ordered that the ballots be revised, and those revisions have produced the same results. Brazil passes law for equal wages - The Brazilian president passed a law on Monday that mandates equal salaries between men and women who do the same work. Source.
Free movement in the Caribbean - The 13 countries that form part of the Caribbean Community will allow free movement between them by 2024. Source.
Peruvians social organizations and trade unions call for struggle against the Boluarte government - The protests will last 10 days and take place in the second half of July. Source.
Nearly 3 million displaced by conflict in Sudan - In less than three months, people have been displaced within Sudan and around a quarter of them have fled across borders. Source.
Same sex marriage in Nepal - On June 28, the Supreme Court ruled that the government should begin registering same-sex marriages. Source.
Pakistan shatters rainfall record - Rainfall in Lahore has broken a 30-year record, and 43 people have died in two weeks of monsoon rain and flooding. Source, source, source.
Kenya to change from refugee camps to resettlement - The move represents a change from a hostile policy towards refugees to integrating people. Kenya hosts around 600,000 refugees. Source.
Brazil passes 2 million solar panels - Brazil has surpassed 2 million solar panels installed on rooftops, shops, and small parcels of land. While positive, this only amounts to 3% of total consumer units. However, government programs aim to reach 5,570 Brazilian municipalities by year-end. Source.
