Global South mass protests for Gaza - While the mainstream media has been trying to downplay protests against the attacks on Gaza in the Global North, aside from mentioning one or two, it has totally boycotted marches in the Global South. On the weekend, perhaps 2 million people rallied in solidarity with Gaza in Jakarta, Indonesia and there was a rally in Aceh, while in Islamabad, Pakistan workers gathered under the Faizabad bridge, only to be met by 3,000 police. Journalists also led a march in Karachi, then Pakistani school children marched in Karachi on Wednesday. In Mexico City, some 15,000 marched, then created a Day of the Dead alter for Gaza. There were also huge protests in Dakar, Senegal and in Istanbul and Ankara, Turkey. Jordanians rallied in Amman, and there were huge marches in the capitals of Argentina and Chile. On Wednesday, protestors in Kolkata, India, demanded a US-brokered ceasefire. Source, source, source, source, source, source, source, source, source, source, source, source.

However, on Friday the congress did pass a law which prohibits new metal mining concessions in the country.
