General rejection of US / Israel plans for Gaza - After Trump initially said he wanted to expel all Gazans and that the US would take over the Gaza Strip, his administration tried to clarify that there would be no boots on the ground and that US “just” wanted to rebuild the region. But, after talks with Trump, Israel has ordered its military to prepare for the “voluntary” departure of Gazans. Palestinians rejected the plan, as did many Middle Eastern countries, Russia, China, Germany, France, Spain, Ireland, Brazil, and more. Source, source, source, source, source.
Guatemalans protest visit of Marco Rubio - So far, no English-language media has covered the protests today against the US Secretary of State and against US interference in the country. Source (including video of the protests).
Panamanians also protest Rubio visit, but Panama gov’t agrees to anti-migrant collaboration - Following declarations by Trump about taking the Panama Canal, Panamanians protested the visit of Marco Rubio on Saturday. Under pressure from Trump’s threats, however, the right-wing government did agree to expand on the already-existing agreement to deport non-Panamanian migrants trying to migrate through the country to the US. Dominican Republic organisations reject Rubio - And on Monday, left-wing Dominican organisations opposed the visit of the US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, declaring him a “persona non grata.” Source.
Argentina president goes on Trump-like offensive, while Argentinians protest - There are fires raging in Argentina, but the national government has not done anything about it, leaving locals to combat the fires which have so far burned 23,000 hectares. President Milei also withdrew Argentina from the WHO and promised to remove femicide as a crime from the penal code, calling it “woke” and “radical feminism.” He then compared homosexuality with paedophilia. As a result of all this, there were huge protests in Argentina in defence of sexual diversity and against racism, extractivism, and more. Source, source, source, source, source.
Turkey continues attacks on Kurds - Turkish forces entered 22 Kurdish villages in Iraqi Kurdistan, set up checkpoints, and told villagers to leave their homes. Source.
In one day, attacks across Khartoum, Sudan, kill 56 - RSF forces struck a busy market with airstrikes on Saturday, as part of attacks in the capital. Further, in South Darfur, airstrikes killed 39 people in two days. Source, source.
El Salvador’s president offers to imprison migrants - Bukele also received a visit from Rubio and offered to receive deported migrants of any nationality, as well as currently imprisoned US citizens, and to admit them to a mega-prison in El Salvador, in exchange for payment and as a way to “strengthen relations” with the US.
