Niger suspends military cooperation with the US - Following Niger's decision to expel French soldiers from its territory, it has subsequently suspended its military agreement with the United States. The pact permitted US military members to conduct operations from Niger, which is pivotal to the US military's activities in Africa's Sahel region and houses a significant airbase. The decision, announced on Saturday, came after senior US officials visited Niger to discuss so-called “democratic transition.” Niger authorities said the US presence in the country was “illegal.” Source, source.
4 days of Israeli raids on Gaza hospital - The Israeli army ordered a complete evacuation of Gaza’s largest hospital and has been attacking it for four days, killing around 100 people and kidnapping some 600, including, at one point, the entire medical staff. Israeli media is claiming all of those people are “terrorists”. Some 13 people in the hospital have died due to the siege and lack of power for their ventilators, lack of medicine, oxygen, or food. Fifteen of 19 hospitals in Gaza City and 18 of 20 primary health care centres are non-functional. Source, source, source.

Vietnam’s president resigns - After just a year, Vietnam’s president stepped down. Vo Van Thuong also resigned from his party’s leadership. The party press statement said he resigned due to his violations and “flaws.” Allegedly, the former president was involved in a bribery scandal with a real estate company. Source, source.
45° C / 113° F sees South Sudan close schools - South Sudan is going through a two-week extreme heat wave and as a result has closed all schools in the country. Source.
23 dead in Papua New Guinea floods - Most of the people who died were buried under rubble caused by the rain. PNG is 16th in the world for being at risk to climate-change based events. Flood food rationing is now being implemented in affected areas. Source, source.
