Facebook workers in Kenya say Meta hasn’t paid them for 6 months - Facebook workers have sued Meta and its outsourcing company over mass redundancies. As a result, they haven’t been paid in six months, and they say the action is in contempt of court. Source.
Protests as Moroccan earthquake victims still waiting for assistance - People in the core area of the earthquake that hit Morocco last month still haven’t received emergency assistance. Whole towns were levelled with most families in those towns losing at least one family member. Protestors blame local and regional authorities for the lack of aid. Source.
In Darfur, Sudan, RSF siege enters third week - The RSF’s continued shelling of the Sudanese army headquarters in central Darfur is exacerbating the humanitarian crisis there, since their siege began early this month. Teachers in the region haven’t been paid in six months and six have been killed. Source.
US corporations plan to build two nuclear power plants in Indonesia - Despite not having permission to build the plants, NuScale Power and ThorCon Power are planning construction anyway, and expect to be installed by 2027. Usually, foreign-owned energy plants provide power for other foreign companies operating in the region, and send profits back to their headquarter country. Source.
Senegal's main opposition leader goes into a coma during hunger strike - Ousmane Sonko has been under arrest since July and his hunger strike is a protest at state harassment and political prisoners. Source.
Gaza wrap up - Four family members of Al Jazeera’s bureau chief were killed in an Israeli air raid, US vetoes UN resolution for ceasefire in Gaza, Medics’ working conditions in Gaza (video, trigger warning), Pro-Palestinian protests erupt from Pakistan to Egypt, to the UK. Israeli airstrikes kill 700 Palestinians in 24 hours, 70% of Gaza population displaced by Israeli bombardment. 181,000 housing units damaged by Israel between 7-23 October.
